Ingredients:
For the Meatballs:
1 lb ground beef
¼ cup breadcrumbs
¼ cup milk
1 egg
½ onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper, to taste
For the Mushroom Gravy:
2 tbsp olive oil
8 oz mushrooms, sliced
2 cups beef broth
¼ cup all-purpose flour
½ cup water
Instructions:
Prepare the Meatballs:
In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Combine everything thoroughly and shape the mixture into 1-inch diameter meatballs.
Cook the Meatballs:
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and brown them on all sides for about 2-3 minutes per side. Once browned, remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
Make the Mushroom Gravy:
In the same skillet, add the sliced mushrooms and cook until tender and browned, about 5 minutes. Sprinkle the flour over the mushrooms and cook, stirring constantly, for 1 minute to eliminate the raw flour taste.
Create the Gravy Sauce:
Gradually pour in the beef broth and water while stirring continuously to prevent lumps. Bring the mixture to a simmer, allowing it to thicken into a rich gravy.
Combine and Simmer:
Return the browned meatballs to the skillet with the mushroom gravy. Cover and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until the meatballs are fully cooked and have absorbed the flavors of the gravy.
Season and Serve:
Taste the gravy and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper if needed. Serve the Salisbury steak meatballs with mushroom gravy over mashed potatoes, rice, or pasta for a comforting and hearty meal.
